About Us
The TunahakiChildren Centre for Development was founded in 1998 by local artist David Ryatula. The Centre was registered with the Government of Tanzania in April, 2001. It is now recognized as a registered charity and non-governmental organization. It has no religious, political or racial affiliation. The Center aims to improve the welfare of vulnerable children whatever their background. By using an Arts and Performance focus, the confidence, self esteem and future of these children promises to be better than the past.
Management
David Ryatula
Mr. Ryatula is an artist and a graduate of Bagamoyo College. He was a cultural affairs officer for Kilimanjaro Regional Office before founding the TunaHAKI Centre. He has been working diligently to address the crucial needs of orphans and vulnerable street children since 1998.
Mary Ryatula
"Mama Baraka" has been caring for orphans and vulnerable children since starting the TunaHAKI Centre in 1998 with her husband David.
Performing Arts
Perhaps the most dynamic and unique feature of the Centre is its focus on the performing arts. Arts training at Tunahaki has provided livesaving tools for the children. They are learning, among other things, to be aerialists, acrobats and gymnasts. The self-esteem, confidence, cooperation skills, and sense of family garnered from working together empower these abandoned children and give them a sense of home.
Recently, a few of the children were able to visit the US where they performed in Los Angeles, San Fransisco and received training from Cirque du Soliel. They returned to their home at Tunahaki with a renewed sense of dedication and hope for the future.
If you are going to be in Moshi, Kilimanjaro and would like to visit Tunahaki for a donation performance, please contact us.
